Like the women’s team, Bellevue’s men’s soccer also played two matches in the past week; one home and away. The first match took place on October 6th against Tacoma before facing South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia, WA on October 9th.
Against Tacoma, Captain Josh Guererro sparked the Bulldogs with a goal in the 4th minute. Andy Fordyce added two goals (10’ and 41’) for a 3-0 halftime lead. Bellevue continued the aggressiveness as RJ Sorensen tacked on a goal 10 minutes into the second half. Luiggi Montero polished off Bellevue’s scoring at minute 75. Tacoma had no answer until the 81st minute but it was too little, too late by then. Bellevue ended up with a 5-2 victory over the Titans.
“Everyone contributed today and as a whole, it was very unselfish play.”
In Olympia, the Bulldogs continued to show their offensive prowess as they defeated the Clippers 8-0. Goals were scored throughout the match by Montero, Esteban Reyes, Tsutomu Ando, and Devin Mendiola. Shefts was pleased with the aggressive play as they out-matched the opponent with a “blue collar” type victory. The Bulldogs did not play a flashy game but rather, just went out and got the job done. Goalkeeper Ipolitas Dunaravich was responsible for the shutout of the Clippers.
The week’s matches propelled the Bulldogs to second place in the west division of the NWAACC. They now have a record of 5-2-0 and look to improve their record on October 16th against Peninsula College in Port Angeles, WA.
