In their only match of the week, the Bellevue College men’s soccer shut down Tacoma October 27 on the road. The Bulldogs took the match 5-1, locking in one of the two playoff berths for the West Region.
Midway through the first half Tacoma struck first with a goal in the 20th minute, but it was all Bellevue from that point forward. Captain Josh Strasser tied the score with a goal in the 34th minute on an assist by Race Sciabica. BC Freshman RJ Sorensen was rolling on a hot streak and scored the next two Bellevue goals in the 48th and 64th minutes, with Luiggi Montero and Cody Sorteberg, respectively, assisting. The Bulldogs secured the victory with Andy Fordyce’s goal in the 73rd minute, quickly followed by Montero’s in the 75th.
Coach Sasha Shefts, again noting that Tacoma is a tough place to play on the road, added that he was “very proud of our men’s team and their obvious support for one another in all aspects of the game.”
Bellevue, now standing at 8-3-0, 11-3-1, has taken over first place in the West Region of the NWAACC, but still has to meet second place Peninsula (7-3-2, 9-3-4) when the Pirates travel to Bellevue Wednesday, November 3, for a match on the Sammamish High School soccer field beginning at 8 PM. Then, Saturday, November 6, the Bulldogs head to Starfire in Tukwila to wrap up their regular season in a match against Highline CC (5-3-3, 9-3-3).
Men’s playoffs are also November 10 and 13, followed by the NWAACC Championship Tournament, at Starfire in Tukwila Nov. 20-21. The Bellevue College Men’s Soccer team is the 2009 defending champion.
