On Saturday, Sept. 22, the second home game of the season for Bellevue College men’s soccer was an authentic battle that resulted in a 2-2 tie against the NWAACC #2 ranked Walla Walla Warriors. In the first half, no team was able to completely control the ball. However, the Bulldogs were the ones creating a higher number of chances that, unfortunately, were not transformed into goal. The bad luck finished in the 29th minute when freshman Juan Ramirez took an excellent free kick from 40 yards out straight to BC’s Bryant Forbes who headed the ball into the net. Sadly, the Bulldog’s advantage only lasted five minutes as Walla Walla scored the equalizer by taking advantage of a defensive error from the home side.
As had happened in the previous game against Olympic, the Bulldogs showed a psychological fall in the second half, giving Walla Walla the ball, which led to their second goal in the 55th minute. This time, however, the Bulldogs showed strong qualities in terms of character and were able to withstand the Warriors’ attacks and get back to find the equalizer. Bellevue’s hard worked finally paid off in the 84th minute as freshman Alex Kramer jumped higher than everyone else and scored the tying goal, assisted by Forbes. Just minutes before, Bulldog sophomore Yahir Sandoval was ejected from the game with a red card which made the tying goal much more relevant.
“Tying a home game is obviously not a result that good teams expect,” said Bellevue head coach Tao Shen, “but considering the way we played against the NWAACC #2 ranked team, there are many positive things we can take from this game, especially our character. Even though it is bittersweet, I feel that our team will keep improving.”
The Bulldogs host their third home game on Wednesday, Sept. 26, taking on Tacoma Community College at 4:15 p.m.
