After a long layoff following three postponements of games due to recent snow, Bellevue College women’s basketball appeared to be rust-free as they went into halftime with a comfortable 29-18 lead, holding Whatcom to single digits in both quarters of the first half. Bellevue could not sustain the lead as visiting Whatcom stunned Bellevue 58-52 tonight at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion.

After controlling the rebounds in the first half, Bellevue lost the momentum as Whatcom dominated underneath in the third quarter controlling possession and outscored BC 20-9, sending the game all tied up heading into the final quarter. Bellevue could not make any adjustments as Whatcom continued to control the game and put up another 20 points in the fourth quarter. The 40 points put up by the Orcas came out of nowhere to put Bellevue in the loss column in shocking fashion.

Amanda Luckett was the lone bright spot for Bellevue in the pivotal third quarter, scoring eight of the nine points for BC on 4-of-5 shooting. Luckett maintained her composure in the fourth as well, leading BC in that quarter en route to a game-high 16 points while also leading the squad with 10 rebounds.

The Bulldogs drop out of first place with the loss to 5-3 (9-11 overall). Bellevue will have to bounce back quickly with their next game slated for this Saturday February 16 with a 2:00 p.m. game at Shoreline.
