Over the weekend of April 21-22, the Bulldogs softball team played in the Crossover Tournament in Yakima. This tournament is softball’s annual Swinging for the Cure event, in which money is raised for breast cancer awareness. Supporting the cause and wearing pink for the weekend, the Bulldogs put on a great showing going 3-1, beating three-time defending NWAACC Champion Mt. Hood 10-0, Spokane 6-2 and Grays Harbor 22-2. Bellevue’s only loss was to Clackamas CC in a championship-like, pitchers dual game in which Clackamas mustered the lone run to win 1-0. Bellevue’s Danielle Orvella and Emilly Cunningham combined to pitch seven solid innings in the game.
Back in western Washington, on Tuesday, April 24, the Bulldogs traveled to Everett in an important North Region matchup, making up a game that was rescheduled from a rainout earlier in the month. The Bulldogs won both games of the doubleheader 6-3 and 6-0, and keeping Bellevue unbeaten in North Region play,. Cunningham picked up the win in game one and Dani Jackman picked up the shut-out victory in game two.
The Bulldogs have finished the first round of league play with a perfect 12-0 North Region Record and have improved their overall record to 28-3.
Up next, the Bulldogs take to the road, heading north for a pair of doubleheaders. First, the team goes to Mount Vernon on Friday, April 27, to face Skagit Valley College with games at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., then British Columbia, Canada, on Saturday with 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. games against Douglas College.
Next home game for the Bulldogs is scheduled for Tuesday, May 1, against Everett CC with a 2:00 p.m. start time for that doubleheader.
