Bulldogs Baseball Go 2-2 at Tacoma-Pierce Invite

Bellevue College’s baseball team split a four-game set over the weekend of March 23-24 at the Tacoma-Pierce Invite hosted by both Tacoma Community College and Pierce College. On Saturday March 23rd, Bellevue lost to host Tacoma 4-2. With the game tied at 2-2, Bellevue’s Aaron Sandefur struck out Tacoma’s Garrett DeGallier on a curve ball that was difficult for BC catcher Dewald DeKlerk to handle. The pitch got by DeKlerk, allowing DeGallier to reach first base. That costly play allowed Tacoma to score two unearned runs to win the game. Jordan Richartz, the leading hitter in the NWAACC, continued his hot hitting with a single and a double.  In game two, Bellevue defeated Lane Community College (OR) by a score of 12-3. The Bulldogs plated nine runs in the 6th and 7th innings combined to put the Titans away.  Several Bulldog hitters had multiple hits including Sheldon Stober and Kurt Lindemann (3 hits apiece), along with Nick Pribble, Dae Kyun Lee, Aaron Stroosma, Spencer Manjarrez, and Richartz with 2 apiece.

On Sunday March 24, Bellevue played Lane for the fourth time this season, and won in extra innings 4-3. The consecutive wins over Lane diminished the effect of Bellevue’s two embarrassing losses to Lane earlier in the season.  Jake Reppert was stellar on the mound as he had a one-hitter through six innings of work and went eight innings while only giving up three hits. Unfortunately, Reppert came away with a no-decision as the score was knotted at 3-3 after regulation. Roman Mitchell earned the win in relief by all six straight batters in two innings of work. In game two, Bellevue was defeated by Pierce 9-2. Pierce blew the game open with a big 5-run inning in the fourth, knocking out starting pitcher Steven Johnson. Max Brown and DeKlerk had two hits apiece for Bellevue.  The Bulldogs finished pre-season with a 9-5 record as they enter opening weekend of league play with a four-game series with Edmonds Community College. The first doubleheader will be this Friday March 29 at 5PM at Edmonds. Bellevue will host the Tritons on Saturday March 30 at 1PM in their home opener. Bellevue played their entire pre-season on the road due to field renovations.
