Bulldogs Open League Play With Split

The BCC Volleyball team opened Northern Region play with a split, dominating Olympic College on September 19, and dropping a four game match at Skagit Valley College on September 24.

The Bulldogs’ victory over Olympic was the team’s third consecutive three game sweep of an NWAACC opponent. Sophomore hitter Nicole Ljutic recorded 13 kills, and teammate Kasey Blevins led the team with 17 of her own. Freshman Sharon Kelley led both teams with 35 assists, while Amanda Crank, the reigning NWAACC Defensive Player of the Week, was solid again in recording 16 digs, helping BCC to a 30-24, 30-18, 30-20 victory.

Bellevue’s winning streak came to an end on Monday, September 24 at the hands of a tough Skagit Valley College team. The Bulldogs’ offense was in top form, as Blevins recorded a season high 26 kills, and Jessica Dubois added 15 of her own. As good as the offense was, however, the defense was unable to stop the Cardinals. After winning the opening game 30-22, the Bulldogs dropped three consecutive games and the match 30-22, 26-30, 26-30, 29-31.

With the loss, the Bulldogs’ record stands even at 1-1 in league play. The team will return home this week for a pair of matches, the first against Shoreline Community College on September 26 at 7:00pm, and the second against Everett Community College on September 28, also at 7:00pm. Admission to all home matches is free for all BCC students, faculty and staff.
