The Bellevue Bulldogs beat the Whatcom Orcas Wednesday Sept. 28 at home in five games; 25-20, 25-19, 20-25, 21-25, 17-15. Bulldog setter Krista Groves had 46 assists in the match with 7 kills, 12 digs and 4 aces. The Bulldog offense was led by outside hitter Laura Friar with 27 kills followed by outside hitter, Lauren Zilke with 9 and middle blocker Sammy Minnig with 7. Libero Tiva Akau lead the Bulldog defense with 25 digs followed by Friar with 19, Zilke with 15 and defensive specialist Morgan de Carteret with 14 digs. The Bulldogs are 12-7 Overall with a 3-0 league record after beating the Orcas.
Lauren Zilke was announced as the NWAACC Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday as well. “I am very proud of Lauren, “ said Head Coach Kim Culliton. “She is playing great and adds a lot of good character to the team. She is a relentless defender and driven athlete,” noted Culliton.
The Bulldogs have an entire week off with their next competition Friday October 7 at 7:00 PM at home vs. Olympic College.
