The Bellevue Bulldogs volleyball team, now 11-6 on the season, took fourth at the Spokane Crossover tournament the weekend of Sept. 14-15. The Bulldogs defeated the Pierce Red Raiders in their first pool play game of the tournament on Friday 25-13, 25-23 and 25-20. The Bulldogs were led by outside hitter Laura Friar with 10 kills and three aces. Outside hitter Kylai Cooley and right side Allison Chin added eight kills each. Chin had two blocks in the match, followed by middle blocker Emina Dodic with 1.5. The Bulldog defense was led by Friar with 12 digs, and Libero Madison Agnew and Cooley with 11 digs each. Bulldog setter Krista Groves had 30 assists in the match.
The Bulldogs next went on to defeat the Big Bend Vikings in three games 25-16, 25-19 and 25-15. Friar had 16 kills in the match, followed by middle blocker Darian Foley with eight kills and Cooley with six. Agnew led the defense with 22 digs; Friar had eight. Groves had 37 assists in the match. With a 2-0 record out of the first pool play, the Bulldogs were then put into the first place pool along with the Spokane Sasquatch, Columbia Basin Riverhawks and the Tacoma Titans.
The Bulldogs faced the Spokane Sasquatch Friday night losing in five in a tough-fought match 18-25, 25-21, 25-23, 20-25 and 12-15. Leading the Bulldog offense was Friar with 26 kills in the match and Cooley with 17. Friar also added two aces for the Bulldogs along with setter Stephanie Antioquia with three. The Bulldog defense was led by Dodic with two blocks. Agnew had 20 digs; Friar, 14; and Cooley and Groves, 12 each. Groves had 54 assists in the match. Next up, the Bulldogs were up against the Columbia Basin Riverhawks and lost in four 19-25, 25-23, 24-26 and 23-25. Friar led the Bulldogs with 27 kills in the match. Cooley and Foley added 13 and nine kills, respectively. The defense was led by Groves with 24 digs and Agnew with 20. Groves had 50 assists in the match.
In the final match of the first place pool, although the Bulldogs were winding down it took four sets for the Tacoma Titans to win 25-19, 25-27, 23-25 and 18-25. The Bulldog defense was against led with Agnew with 26 digs. Friar added 21 kills in the match. Groves had another 50 assists in the match.
The Bulldogs finished the tournament with two honors, both outside hitters Laura Friar and Kylai Cooley were named All-Tournament Team.
Other honors for the Bellevue College volleyball team include a Week Two sweep of North Region Players of the Week: Laura Friar, Offensive; Krista Groves, Setter; and Madison Agnew, Defensive. Agnew also was selected NWAAA Defensive Volleyball Player of Week Two.
Bulldogs Win in Three
Bellevue Bulldogs volleyball took on the Yakima Valley Yaks on Monday, Sept. 17, winning the match in three 25-19, 25-10 and 25-19. The Bulldogs were led by outside hitter Kylai Cooley with four aces and 11 kills in the match. Cooley also had a passing average of 2.60 on a scale of 3.00. Outside hitter Laura Friar added 15 kills for the Bulldogs, and middle blocker Darian Foley had seven. Middle blocker Emina Dodic led the Bulldog defense with 2.5 blocks. Libero Madison Agnew had 17 digs for the Bulldogs, followed by Friar with nine and setter Krista Groves with eight. Groves had 34 assists in the match.
The Bulldogs are back in action at home Wednesday, Sept. 19, for their first Northern region match against the Everett Trojans at 7:00 p.m.
