Bulldogs Volleyball at Halfway Point in Season

The Bellevue Bulldogs defeated the Everett Trojans volleyball team on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Everett CC in three: 26-24, 25-7 and 25-6. Setter Krista Groves led the Bulldogs with four aces in the match, backed up by outside hitter Laura Friar and Libero Madison Agnew each with two. The Bulldogs offense was led by outside hitter Kylai Cooley with 11 kills in the match, followed by Friar with 10, right side Allison Chin with six and middle blockers Darian Foley and Emina Dodic with five and four, respectively. Chin and Dodic also led the Bulldogs defense with two blocks each. Agnew had 13 digs for the Bulldogs; Friar, nine. Seven digs each were provided by Groves, Cooley and defensive specialist Taylor Phan. Groves had 32 assists in the match.

Opening the final half of league play, the Bulldogs were back in action Friday, Oct. 19, hosting the Edmonds Tritons. Now 8-0 in league and 23-9 overall, Bellevue defeated Edmonds in four: 22-25, 25-21, 25-14 and 25-15. Groves led the Bulldogs with three aces, with two each by outside hitters Friar and Cooley and Libero Agnew. Friar led the Bulldog offense with 19 kills, followed by Cooley with 12, and middle blocker Foley with 9. Agnew had 29 digs for the Bulldogs, with Cooley and Groves contributing 13 and 12, respectively. Groves had 45 assists in the match. Head Coach Kim Culliton said, “Both matches this week were a slower start than the Bulldogs prefer, so we’ll be working hard to improve on that. We are at that mid-point of the season where we need to push to become more mentally and physically tough, so that will be our focus for the next few weeks.”

Next up for Bellevue, on Monday, Oct. 22, the Bulldogs host the Whatcom Orcas. Game time is 7:00 p.m. in the Bellevue gym. Also, at this match, the Bulldogs continue with their participation in “Dig Pink,” a nationwide fundraising event throughout the month of October which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Donations will be accepted at the remaining two home games for BC and will benefit the American Cancer Society.
