The Bellevue Bulldogs traveled to Spokane to participate in their first matches of the season at the Spokane Invitational, over the weekend of Sept. 6 and 7, and ended up going 3-2 on the weekend.
The Bulldogs faced the Clackamas Cougars in game one of the tournament losing in four 25-23, 13-25, 16-25 and 18-25. Outside hitter Allison Chin lead the Bulldog offense with 10 kills followed by outside hitter Kylai Cooley with eight and right side Roshel Muzzall with six. Setters Stephanie Antioquia and Dani Smullin each had 17 assists in the match. The Bulldogs defense had six blocks on the match led by right side Kayley Watkins and middle Kelcie Russell with two each. Cooley lead the defense with 21 digs in the match followed by defensive specialist Loretta Forrest with 13 and Libero Sara Pulaski and Smullin each with 12.
In game two of pool play, the Bulldogs faced the Walla Walla Warriors and lost in four 16-25, 17-25, 25-22 and 17-25. The Bulldogs offense was led by middle blocker Tessa Kush with 13 kills followed by Cooley with 11 and Watkins with eight. Smullin had 26 assists in the match. Pulaski led the Bulldog defense with 17 digs followed by Cooley with 11 and Smullin with nine.
The Bulldogs then faced the Wenatchee Valley Knights Friday night and Bellevue won in three 25-21, 25-22 and 25-17. Kush had 10 kills for the Bulldogs followed by Cooley with eight and Muzzall with six. Bulldog defense was led by Pulaski with 19 digs followed by Cooley with 14 and Antioquia with 11.
In game four Saturday morning the Bulldogs faced the Chemeketa Storm winning in three 25-12, 25-13 and 25-22. The Bulldog offense was led by Watkins with 15 kills followed by Kush with 11 and Cooley with six. Cooley had two aces for the Bulldogs in the match. Pulaski passed a 2.40 serve receive with 19 digs for the Bulldog defense followed by Cooley with 11 and Smullin with 10.
The Bulldogs faced the Big Bend Lady Vikings in the final match of the weekend and took all three 25-19, 25-16 and 27-25. Outside hitters Watkins and Kush had 12 and 10 kills respectively in the match for the Bulldogs followed by middle blocker Cooley with nine. Cooley, Muzzall and middle blocker Kelcie Russell each had two blocks for the Bulldogs. Pulaski had 17 digs in the match followed by Cooley with 10.
