Former Bulldogs Tyler Baumgartner and Cory Urquhart had five more hits in the elimination round opener against Team Canada while Bulldog alums and current University of Hawaii pitchers Matt Cooper and Scott Kuzminsky each threw shutout innings as USA won 9-4. The game was the first in bracket play as the tourney comes to a close tomorrow. Baumgartner went 2-for-4 with 3 runs and 2 RBI while Urquhart went 3-for-5. Kuzminsky earned the save with a shutout ninth inning. For the tourney, Urquhart leads the US team with a .455 average while Baumgartner is second hitting .391 with a team-leading 6 RBI’s. Team USA concludes the tourney tomorrow playing for the Bronze medal against either the Chinese Taipei National team or Japan. Cuba will play the winner of the Chinese Taipei / Japan game for the Gold.
