Bellevue College softball came from behind with the bats on fire twice as the host Bulldogs swept Wenatchee Valley by scores of 6-4 and 13-9. The wins were not only the season opener for the ‘dogs, but were the first games for Annie Lockwood as Head Coach for Bellevue. Bellevue had 31 hits on the day as the team put up big numbers in the late innings for two dramatic comeback wins.

In the opener, the Bulldogs found themselves down early 4-2 but chipped away pushing a run across in the fourth on a Brooke Baker double, scoring Maddie Repp. Baker and Repp got things going again in the big sixth inning with a double by Repp followed by a walk to Baker. The two advanced on a wild pitch setting up an RBI single by Hallie Sehlin. A groundout RBI by Ryleigh Wotzka scored Baker before a second wild pitch scored pinch runner Ella Singer for BC’s third run, giving them a two run cushion heading into the top of the seventh. Wenatchee threatened with two singles but pitcher Riley Pirkle, who threw four shutout innings of relief, was able to get the third out. Repp was four-for-four while Baker was three-for-three with three RBI’s. Pirkle had three hits as well.

In the nightcap, the Bulldogs exploded for nine runs in the final two innings, putting up five in the final frame extra eighth. BC scored four in the seventh to tie it at 8 before the eighth, when Kaylie Grace-Brown cleared the bases with a bases-loaded triple scoring Avery Grutz, Pirkle, and Wotzka for the win.

Baker, the transfer from Arizona Christian University, anchored the offense again with a thrree-for-four game and three runs. Anna Fowler had three hits as well. Baker also went the distance on the mound, throwing 130 pitches in the complete game win.

The Bulldogs start the season 2-0 and head to Pasco next weekend for the NWAC Inter-Regionals Invite.
