Usitalo Clinches NWAC Berth For Men’s Basketball at Edmonds

Bellevue College men’s basketball scored a huge win on the road at Edmonds by a score of 66-65. Darek Usitalo, who led Bellevue on the night with 20 points, made the biggest one with time expiring, hitting a free throw in the final seconds to seal the win in a back and forth game which saw several lead changes in the second half.

Bellevue, down by five early in the second half rallied and led by as much as eight points at 65-58 with 3:47 to go after a three pointer by Sawyer Cottrell. Edmonds went on a 7-0 run in the final two minutes to tie it up before Usitalo’s heroics cut Edmonds’ hopes as time expired.

While shooting a relatively cold 35% for the night, the Bulldogs caught fire from long range in the second half on six-for-13 shooting from three point land, making 46%. BC was sharp at the free throw line as well making nine-of-10. Usitalo scored 10 in both halves and also led the ‘dogs with eight rebounds. Cottrell and Cooper Brown added 13 points.

The win clinches an NWAC playoff berth and a second place finish in the North Region. The Bulldogs will put their six game winning streak on the line in their regular season finale at home against first place Skagit Valley this Wed. Feb. 26 at 5 p.m.
