
Bellevue College women’s basketball went 1-2 in Port Angeles at the Pirate Classic hosted by Peninsula College. The Bulldogs opened up on Fri. Dec. 6 with a 76-56 win over Green River. In similar fashion to previous wins, BC got the offense going early, putting up 22 points in the opening quarter and led 36-25 at the half. After leading in commanding fashion early on, Green River battled back to a 13-13 tie before the defense clamped down to give BC a 20-15 lead. Bellevue stayed in control at the foul line as seven Gator fouls in the opening period allowed the Bulldogs to head to the free throw line 10 times as Bellevue made seven of them to keep the lead.
In the second half Bellevue took control with a commanding 48-28 lead early in the third quarter. The closest Green River could get would be 13 points as BC cruised to the win. Myana Calloway was hot from both the field and foul line, making seven-of-11 from the field and eight-of-11 from the line for a team high 23 points. Devynn Warns had 17 points and also had 11 rebounds, six assists, and four steals.
On day two, Sat. Dec. 8 Bellevue played the host team and North Region rival Peninsula. The Bulldogs could not continue their first quarter hot starts as the Pirates dominated the first quarter 18-5 en route to a 67-42 win. Down 39-16 at halftime, BC played even with Peninsula after a rough first half in a game reminiscent of BC’s early season losses in Oregon.
Bellevue was outrebounded 34-22 and shot a cold 29% in the game. Warns had 12 points and seven rebounds; both team highs.
The ‘dogs fell 72-59 on day three Sun. Dec. 8 to Chemeketa. After a fairly even first quarter, Bellevue fell sluggish in the middle quarters being outscored 20-14 and 25-14 in the second and third quarters respectively. In the second quarter down by two at 16-14, Chemeketa threw in three consecutive three pointers in a row to jump up 25-14 and ran with the momentum. Warns brought BC back to 34-30 early in the third on a three pointer, but the Storm went on a 14-0 run to maintain control.
Aysha Peter had 17 points to lead Bellevue and also had a team high nine rebounds.
Bellevue is 3-4 and will host Wenatchee Valley, Lane, and Green River this weekend in the Bellevue Crossover. Play begins Fri. Dec. 13 as Bellevue takes on Wenatchee Valley at 7 p.m.
