Bellevue College women’s volleyball defeated visiting Whatcom 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 26-24, 25-17). The closeness of the first three sets gave the Bulldogs a slight scare against the 11-17 Orcas but managed to pull away with a convincing set four win.

Lexi Echols hit .478 and with 12 kills and only one error while Mya Hejl continued her recent hot play with eight kills hitting .615 with two solo blocks. Jessi Mahler had 14 kills and 17 digs to lead the defensive efforts.

The Orcas hung with Bellevue with strong serving as they had 15 aces on the night while the ‘dogs managed only 8. Two of Whatcom’s aces came late in set three putting Whatcom up 24-23, but two consecutive kills by Mahler and Echols brought BC back as they held on to win.

In set four, the ‘dogs went on a surge at 13-13 with a seven point run aided by four errors by Whatcom during that stretch to put the deciding match away.

Before the match seven sophomores (Natalie Copeland, Mandi Nottingham, Jocie Snyder, Jessi Mahler, Maycee Ward, Olivia Beal, Annie Goetze) were honored by Head Coach Jocelyn Lawrence for their outstanding commitment and efforts.
