Sarai Perdomo’s goal off a feed from Brooke Reiber gave Bellevue College women’s soccer a dramatic 2-1 win in the opening round of the NWAC Championships. Perdomo found the back of the net with only 1:30 left remaining in the game as the two teams stayed gridlocked at 1-1 for nearly 53 minutes in a game in which featured the Bulldogs getting a whopping 14 shots on goal resulting in only a pair.
BC’s Oteta Kitiona scored the game’s first goal to put the ‘dogs up early on at 20:04. As Bellevue’s offense attacked early and gave early indication the playoff match might be a blowout. Perdomo had a near goal just minutes prior with a shot off the crossbar. With Bellevue dominating on the offensive side with five shots in the first half, Walla Walla somehow remained in the game and evened it up at 1-1 on a goal by Kennedy Cobb. Reiber would attempt to answer back for BC but was stopped by Walla Walla goalkeeper Viviana Ochoa.
The team traded near misses within the first ten minutes before BC went off with eight shots on goal against a fading Walla Walla defense. Shots by Emerson Winn, Karly Ellis, Kitiona, Arene Thongoulay, Perdomo, and Layne Davis would not fall as the ‘dogs began to wonder if one would ever go in before Perdomo’s last minute heroics.
Bellevue travels to the South Region #1 seed, Rogue on Sat. Nov. 9. A win will take the Bulldogs to the final four the following weekend.
