Johnson Powers Men’s Soccer Over Shoreline

Bellevue College soccer player

Bellevue College men’s soccer won 2-0 over host Shoreline today as forward Derek Johnson led the way scoring both goals in the shutout.

Johnson’s leg got plenty of work as he fired six shots today and found the net on both of his shots on goal. His first was at the 26:23 mark on an assist by Santiago Vergara. Johnson then scored on a penalty kick as the first half ended to put the ‘dogs up 2-0.

With 12 shots on goal by both teams, the game ended up being a much lower score than anticipated as the host Dolphins outshot BC 11-8 in the second half but could not capitalize. The ‘dogs had chances too to turn the game into a blowout but had narrow misses by Eluar Gutierrez, Dale Blickhan, and Kaleb Steinle in the second half.

Mason Duarte was stellar in the box for BC recording the shutout saving all five of Shoreline’s attempts.

Bellevue stays in contention for the playoffs with the win and is now 5-5 in North Region play (6-6 overall). They travel to Everett on Sun. Oct. 27 for a noon start.
