
Visiting Skagit Valley defeated host Bellevue 1-0 as the Cardinals’ lone shot on goal in the entire game fell in for the win in a pivotal game for between two teams battling for the final playoff spot in the North Region.
Skagit Valley was close to breaking the scoreless game at the 28:40 mark on Carlens Dollins’ attempt, but the shot hit the post, keeping the game gridlocked at 0-0. The Cardinals ended up finding the back of the net quickly thereafter on a goal by Harry Carter at 30:55.
Bellevue battled in the closing minutes with two shots on goal by Santiago Vergara and Brandan Ignacio but were stopped by Skagit Valley goalkeeper Kiyu Yatsuda.
In a second half in which neither team found many opportunities, the defense controlled the game as Vergara had Bellevue’s lone opportunity with 10 minutes remaining in the game but was denied on a save by Skagit Valley’s Jeovany Lopez.
BC is now 4-5 in region play (5-6 overall) and currently sits in fourth place in the region. Bellevue travels to Shoreline next Wed. Oct. 23 for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
