Bellevue College men’s basketball did all they could to compete with host Peninsula with limited bodies in an 89-71 loss. The Bulldogs suited up only six players due to health and injury reasons, and battled fatigue as the defense allowed the Pirates to put up 67 shots with 35 being made. The Pirates’ hot hand was from three-point range, making 45%, and at the foul line (83%).
Bellevue was within three with only a minute to go in the first half, down 40-37 before the Pirates downed six points in the final seconds for breathing room heading into the locker room at halftime. From there, fatigue set in as Peninsula distanced themselves from the ‘dogs, pushing the lead up to 18 just five minutes into the second half.
Logan Stempniak, one of two Bulldogs to play the entire 40 minutes, had 32 points and nine rebounds. He shot 50% from three point range and had a game-high 16 free throw attempts but could cash in on only nine of them.
Bellevue is 1-2 (12-6 overall) and hosts Whatcom this Saturday Jan. 20 at 4 p.m.
