Fellow freshmen Josiah Johnson and Logan Stempniak combined for 57 of the team’s 80 points in Bellevue’s 80-71 win at Pierce. Both shot over 50% from the field and had the hot hand from long range, as Johnson was five of nine from three point range and connected for 29 points while Stempniak was five-for-12 and was 10-for-19 from the field overall for 28 points. Stempniak also was a force defensively with 14 rebounds.
The ‘dogs rallied back with a strong second half for the second game in a row this week by outscoring the Raiders 51-39 as the twosome really got hot sinking a combined six of nine from three-point range.
Johnson’s three ball early in the second half tied the game at 37 before he tossed in another on the next possession to put BC up 40-37 with 17:49 remaining.
The teams traded leads until the Bulldogs began to break it open from a seven to 13 point lead in a two minute span with 4:53 left. Stempniak made back-to-back three pointers at the 5:20 mark during that key stretch which gave BC all the momentum they needed for the win.
After a bit of a skid late in December, the ‘dogs bounced back and closed off pre-season play with two wins this week to finish at 11-4 as they head into North Region play which begins Wed. Jan 10 at Olympic. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
