Women’s Basketball Rebound Back With Win Over Peninsula

Addy Clabby

Bellevue College’s women’s basketball team came from behind and won a thriller over visiting Peninsula tonight 75-71 at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. It was the second consecutive game that came down to the wire in the last three nights. However, after falling to Skagit Valley Saturday, the Bulldogs did not disappoint tonight.

In the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs rallied from a deficit to take the lead on a bucket by Kate Rutledge, putting BC up 58-57 with 6:16 to go. Bellevue maintained a small lead for the next several minutes until the Pirates tied it up at 65 with 2:41 left. Freshman Helena Van Ess quickly turned the momentum back to Bellevue’s way with a three-pointer  that started a seven point run that was followed by baskets by Mo Bungay and Addy Clabby.

Clabby came through in the clutch by sinking both free throws with :20 remaining to put BC up 74-71. Rokki Brown then came up big with a rebound off a missed Peninsula attempt then made a free throw to extend the lead to four with only :09 left to seal the win.

Bungay had 25 points while Brown and Rutledge each had 17. Clabby contributed everywhere, scoring 10 points, grabbing 4 rebounds, and dishing out 4 assists.

Bellevue is now atop the North Region with a 12-4 record. The squad has two remaining games left which are both on the road as they travel to Olympic this Wednesday June 2 for a 5:00 p.m. tipoff before a Saturday June 5 contest at Everett.
