Bellevue College women’s basketball withstood a cold shooting start and a late Everett rally to hold off the host Trojans last night, taking the game 53-50. Bellevue was down 13-8 after one quarter on 3-of-13 shooting but was able to make up ground with 19 points in the second quarter to take a narrow 27-25 lead into halftime. Freshman Brianna Byrnes was 3-for-4 and got things going offensively for Bellevue to spark the turnaround.
In the second half, BC went cold again shooting 4-for-14 from the field as Everett had more going offensively draining nearly half of their attempts but BC held onto the lead thanks to 6-for-8 shooting from the free throw line. Addy Clabby came through in the clutch at the line as she made both ends with nine seconds left in the game to put them up 52-48 which proved to be the game-winning points for the ‘dogs.
Byrnes ended the night with 10 points while Clabby had 6 rebounds and dished out a team high 6 assists.
Bellevue is now on top of the North Region with a 7-1 record and has a week off until next Wednesday May 12 against Skagit Valley. This Saturday’s game at Whatcom has been cancelled due to covid protocols in the Whatcom program.
