
Bellevue College men’s basketball continued to establish their presence as one of the top teams in the North Region with an 82-78 win over Everett at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. Newcomer O’Landa Baker showed an even more impressive night as his contributions keep growing each game as he threw in a game-high 29 points and had 6 rebounds and 6 steals to complement the shooting. He was 10-19 from the field and 7-for-9 from the line in an all-around effort on both offense and defense.
Although the Bulldogs led 42-34 at halftime, the Trojans remained in the game, thanks to 90% free throw percentage and 11 rebounds in the first half alone by Everett’s Brendon Redford as the Trojans outrebounded the ‘dogs 27-19.
In the second half, the Trojans flipped their shooting percentage from a paltry 30% in the first half to a blistering 47% in the second half. Although the Trojans had the hot shooting hand to climb back into the game, BC made clutch free throws down the stretch led by Baker, who was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line and had 4 of his 6 steals in the second half as well. Baker made both free throws after being fouled by Everett’s Redford with :25 to go in the game to give BC a three-point cushion at 78-75 which provided enough breathing room until time expired.
Bellevue is now 4-1 and in second place in the North behind Skagit Valley. The Bulldogs host Whatcom this Wednesday April 21 at 7:15 p.m.
