Bulldogs Basketball Continue Win Streak Over Everett

O'Landa Baker

Bellevue College men’s basketball continued to establish their presence as one of the top teams in the North Region with an 82-78 win over Everett at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. Newcomer O’Landa Baker showed an even more impressive night as his contributions keep growing each game as he threw in a game-high 29 points and had 6 rebounds and 6 steals to complement the shooting. He was 10-19 from the field and 7-for-9 from the line in an all-around effort on both offense and defense.

Although the Bulldogs led 42-34 at halftime, the Trojans remained in the game, thanks to 90% free throw percentage and 11 rebounds in the first half alone by Everett’s Brendon Redford as the Trojans outrebounded the ‘dogs 27-19.

In the second half, the Trojans flipped their shooting percentage from a paltry 30% in the first half to a blistering 47% in the second half. Although the Trojans had the hot shooting hand to climb back into the game, BC made clutch free throws down the stretch led by Baker, who was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line and had 4 of his 6 steals in the second half as well. Baker made both free throws after being fouled by Everett’s Redford with :25 to go in the game to give BC a three-point cushion at 78-75 which provided enough breathing room until time expired.

Bellevue is now 4-1 and in second place in the North behind Skagit Valley. The Bulldogs host Whatcom this Wednesday April 21 at 7:15 p.m.
