A 24-18 early lead helped Bellevue College women’s basketball to a 68-56 win tonight at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion over Olympic College. The win was Bellevue’s first home game with spectators allowed per NWAC protocol. Kate Rutledge was 3 for 4 from three-point range and scored 11 points in the first quarter alone to spark Bellevue’s early surge. In the commanding 24-13 first quarter, Bellevue integrated all of their freshmen reserves from the get-go as Willow Jackson, Mckayla Rodriguez, Keani Midel, Helena Van Ess, and Jalena Henry all saw significant playing time. Rodriguez had 3 rebounds including 2 offensively to keep ball control on Bellevue’s side as the ‘dogs outrebounded Olympic 13-6 while building their 11 point lead.
After entering halftime with a 42-33 lead, BC built up the lead even more, albeit in slower fashion in the third quarter by outscoring OC 13-6 in an ugly shooting affair in which Bellevue shot 4-for-24 while Olympic didn’t fare any better, shooting at a 3-for-16 clip which resulted in the low scoring quarter.
Rutledge led the Bulldogs with 20 points after the hot start while Mo Bungay added 18 with a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Addy Clabby gave another all around performance with 16 points and 7 assists without turning the ball over once while running BC’s offense.
Bellevue’s next game will be next week Wednesday April 21 at 5:00 as they host Whatcom. The game scheduled for this Saturday April 17 has been cancelled due to covid-protocols.
