Many eyes appear to be focused on Bellevue College baseball’s 2021 squad as the Bulldogs coming off a covid-shortened 8-4 season in ’20 received a national ranking for the 2021 pre-season, coming in at #50 overall in the country according to Prep Baseball Report (PBR). The rankings cover all junior colleges in the country from NJCAA to California to NWAC and were voted on by the panel of PBR, which is one of the leading amateur baseball coverage groups who are partner with Major League Baseball.
Besides the national ranking, Bellevue’s Nick Hovland was named first-team All-American pre-season by PBR. He is Bellevue’s first ever first-teamer. In 2017, Austin Shenton, now one of the rising prospects in the Seattle Mariners’ organization was named second team by the American Baseball Coaches’ Association. Hovland hit .455 last spring with a .545 slugging percentage and 7 stolen bases in a 12-game season last spring.
The Bulldogs return over 20 players from last year’s stellar team and eagerly await their season opener Saturday April 10 at Everett (now moved to a 2pm start).
