Bellevue’s Makenna Faulkner was firing on all cylinders last night as the sophomore from Wenatchee had 30 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 steals in an amazing comeback win in overtime over host Edmonds last night, 80-79. Faulkner was clutch from the free throw line all night, sinking 14-of-18, many in clutch situations down the stretch to propel the Bulldogs to the win.
After falling behind in a high-scoring first half, 45-31, the ‘dogs flipped the momentum outscoring the Tritons 24-7 in a pivotal third quarter. At the 7:57 mark in the third, Faulkner went on a 6-point run to close the gap from 11 to 5 in a one minute span, and the Bulldogs quickly went from being blowout victim to right back in the game at 45-40.
In the see-saw fourth quarter, Faulkner delivered again with a layup as time expired to send the game into OT. Neither team could break out in the extra session, keeping the game with either team’s reach until the final seconds as Edmonds, up by one at 79-78 failed to pad their lead, giving BC one last chance. The Bulldogs’ Amanda Luckett’s basketball as time expired catapulted BC from the one point deficit to victory.
In addition to Faulkner’s highlight reel game, Luckett matched it with 23 points and a game-high 17 rebounds, 12 of them being on the offensive side. She was also clutch at the free throw line making 9-of-10. The 22 team fouls by Edmonds gave Bellevue a whopping 36 opportunities at the free throw line. Behind Faulkner and Luckett, the team cashed in on nearly 80% of them sparking the comeback.
Bellevue is now 9-3 (16-6 overall) and clinched a playoff berth with the win. The ‘dogs take on Olympic this Sunday February 23 at 1:00 p.m. at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion.
