After a season-opening drubbing to host Salt Lake City the night before, Bellevue College’s women’s basketball team fought back and gave Utah State Eastern all they could handle but still came up short in a 60-45 loss yesterday in Taylorsville, UT. Utah State Eastern, coming into the game at 7-1, is atop the standings in the tough Scenic West Conference.
After losing momentum early in the first quarter in the season opener against Salt Lake, Bellevue was able to stay even in their second game, down just one point, 12-11 after one quarter to Utah State Eastern. BC stayed close at halftime down 28-21 but could not get anything going in the second half. Both teams shot relatively poor, as the Bulldogs shot only 30% from the floor and 47% from the free throw line.
Emma Jackson was strong underneath with a team-leading 11 rebounds. She chipped in eight points as the ‘dogs were led by freshman Natalie Amos who had 11 points.
Bellevue flies back home to Seattle today and will entertain Chemeketa (OR) this Saturday December 1 in the Bulldogs’ home opener at 5:00 p.m.
