Bellevue College men’s basketball, hosting their own Bulldog Classic this past weekend, took second, reaching the title game after two big wins. The Bulldogs lost 92-71 to Walla Walla in the championship on Sunday December 13.

In the opening round on Friday December 11, Bellevue came from behind to defeat Wenatchee Valley 71-66. Foul trouble by the Knights in the second half enabled Bellevue to come back, as the Bulldogs sank 16 of 21 free throws to stage the comeback. Jordan Muir-Kueng led BC with 18 points on 6-for-11 shooting, including 3-of-5 from three point land. Quentin Moore added 16 points.

On Saturday December 12, Bellevue topped Chemeketa (OR) 79-72 in the semi-final game. Moore, who was only 6-for-12 the night prior from the free throw line, had the hot hand on Saturday sinking 8-of-9 from the line and was also on fire from the field with a 9-for-14 shooting night. Moore’s 27 points led the Bulldogs who also got 16 points from Yonathan Michael. Brian Zehr was 4-for-5 shooting and also led BC with 11 rebounds.

On championship Sunday, December 13, Bellevue squared off with Walla Walla. Although only trailing by four at halftime, the visiting Warriors extended it’s lead and took momentum, outscoring Bellevue 52-35 in the second half. The hot-shooting Warriors made 59% of their shots including 6-of-10 from three-point range as compared to Bellevue’s 35% from the field. The Bulldogs made only one three-pointer out of seven attempts.  Muir-Kueng had 17 points and Calvin Dennis had 16 points.

The runner-up finish is an improvement for the young Bulldogs (5-4 overall record), which have only two returning players on this year’s roster.  Bellevue’s next game is December 17 at the Yakima Valley Crossover. The Bulldogs play at 1:00 p.m. vs. Green River.
