Bellevue College baseball won both games in the bottom of the final inning on Sunday April 28 to take the four game series three games to one over Tacoma CC in non-league play this weekend. On Saturday April 27 at Tacoma, Bellevue scratched out a 3-2 win in game one before dropping game two 9-6. In game one, Bellevue jumped out 3-0 as Trai Patrick delivered the big 2 RBI double to drive in Ryan Malone and Jordan Silva, who both singled earlier in the inning. Patrick would then score on a single by Sheldon Stober. Although the Bulldogs failed to score for the remainder of the game, the pitching of Aaron Sandefur and Dustin Doucette held Tacoma’s offense in check by not walking a single batter the entire game. Doucette entered in the fifth inning with the tying run at second base, and retired the toughest part of Tacoma’s batting order to preserve the win.
On Sunday Bellevue won two nail-biters by scores of 7-6 and 6-5. The heroics began in the bottom of the final inning as Bellevue was down to their final out and nobody on base. Jordan Richartz walked then stole second base before Anthony Flatt drilled a double to the wall to drive in Richartz. Aaron Stroosma then came up and delivered the game-winning hit as he singled in Flatt for the winning run. In game two, Nick Kassuba entered in relief and pitched three and one third innings of shutout relief as the Bulldogs got another game-winning hit in the final frame. Pinch hitter Nick Pribble singled to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning. With one out, Tacoma went to the bullpen for a second time in the inning, as University of Washington signee Brandon Choate entered the game for the Titans. Choate walked the leading hitter in the NWAACC, Max Brown, before a wild pitch moved Pribble and Brown to second and third. Richartz then drilled a two strike pitch over the left fielder’s head to seal the win, sweep, and series for the Bulldogs.
Bellevue now has two remaining series left in North Region play with a four-game set against Olympic College. The Saturday May 4 doubleheader will be at home before Sunday’s doubleheader at the Kitsap Fairgrounds in Silverdale. Both doubleheaders begin at 1PM. The remaining two series are critical for everyone as only three games separate five teams battling for three playoff spots.
