The Bellevue College softball team played host to perennial South Region powerhouse Lower Columbia on Sunday, March 10, and came out on top in both games winning 8-0 and 9-7.
In game one, the Bulldogs won 8-0 behind solid defense and the stellar pitching of freshman Brielle Bray. Bray held the potent LC lineup to just two hits and no runs while striking out five. Offensively, the Bulldogs had 10 hits and were led by Autumn Isaacson (3-3, two runs scored) and Larissa Johnson (3-3, double, two runs scored, two RBI’s). The Bulldogs scored their eighth run in the fifth inning on a walk-off hit by Meagan Ransier to win due to the eight-run rule.
The Bulldogs offensive came out firing in game two, scoring eight runs in the first inning to take the big early lead. Lower Columbia battled back scoring two in the second, two in the fourth, and three in the seventh, but the Bulldogs held them off and scored a run of their own in the sixth. Bellevue then put the LC hitters away in the seventh and final inning to hold on for the 9-7 win. Bulldog Hannah Sauget picked up the victory throwing five strong innings, while Bray picked up the save.
The Bulldogs are now 6-2 on the season. Up next, Bellevue travels to the Inter-Region Tournament at Lower Columbia March 16-17. Visit www.bellevuecollege.edu/athletics for the complete schedule.
