Softball Starts Season 4-2

The Bellevue College Bulldogs softball team opened their 2013 season in Portland the weekend of March 1 and 2 at the Clackamas College Tournament in Portland. Facing some tough competition, the Bulldogs went 2-2 at the mini-tournament. On Friday, March 1, Bellevue beat four-year school Northwest Christian 9-8, then took a win from the NWAACC South Region defending champions Southwest Oregon CC, 5-1. Bulldogs’ freshman pitcher Hannah Sauget picked up the win in game one, while Brielle Bray got the win in game two. On Saturday, the Bulldogs faced defending NWAACC Champion Clackamas. The game was tight through six innings until Clackamas hit a three-run homerun to beat the Bulldogs 6-2. Bellevue then faced power-hitting four-year school Concordia team, which also has two former Bellevue players on the roster, Danielle Orvella and Tobey Varney. Concordia’s offense proved to be too powerful and the Bulldogs went down 11-2. Larissa Johnson and Lauren Burchak hit homeruns for Bellevue.

On Monday, March 4, the Bulldogs returned to Bellevue for their home opener against Green River. The Bulldogs picked up two decisive wins, beating Green River 15-1 and 13-0. Bray picked up the win in game one and Sauget got the victory in game two. Offensively, the Dawgs were led by home runs from Johnson, Sauget, Autumn Isaacson, Miranda Granger, and Lindsey West.

The Bulldogs stay at home to host another doubleheader on Sunday, March 10, against South Region powerhouse Lower Columbia. Games times are 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
