Bulldogs Volleyball Win on Sophomore Night, Then Lose to Olympic in Five

Halloween night the Bellevue Bulldogs volleyball team celebrated Sophomore Night as fans were dressed in their costumes in the stands for the last Bulldogs home game of the season. Prior to the game the families of the sophomores Libero Madison Agnew, setter Krista Groves, middle blocker Emina Dodic, right side Samantha Minnig and outside hitter Laura Friar joined the women on the court as each athlete thanked her family, coaches, teammates and staff of Bellevue College.

When time came to play, the Bulldogs did not disappoint. Although an emotional night for Bellevue, the Bulldogs defeated the Skagit Valley Cardinals in three: 25-10, 25-15 and 25-20. Leading the Bulldogs was Groves with three aces, followed by outside hitter Kylai Cooley with two. The Bulldog offense was led by Friar with 18 kills, with Cooley at 11, and middle blocker Darian Foley with seven. Agnew helped the Bulldogs to their win with 29 digs in the back row, followed by Groves and Cooley with nine each. Groves had 38 assists in the match. Friar was again selected North Region Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, and Cooley was named North Region Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week in Week #9.

Back in action only three days later, the Bulldogs were defeated for their first North Region loss of the season on Friday, Nov. 2, against Olympic College in Bremerton, but it took five games for the Rangers to put them away: 18-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23 and 13-15. Down the first two games in the match, the Bulldogs fought back to take games three and four, but could not hold on at the end of game five. Bellevue’s offense was led by outside hitter Friar with 21 kills, outside hitter Cooley with 12, and middle blocker Foley with eight. Middle blocker Dodic led the Bulldog front row with 4.5 blocks, followed by Foley with three and setter Groves with two. The Bulldog defense was led by Libero Agnew with 30 digs and Groves with 15. Friar and defensive specialist Taylor Phan added 14 each. Groves had 45 assists in the match.
