Finally – A League Win for Bulldogs Men’s Soccer

It has been a challenging fall for the Bellevue College men’s soccer program, with only one win for the season and not a single West league win until October 24 when the Bulldogs were finally able to overcome the third-place Titans at Tacoma CC. The opportunity was seized by freshman Yahir Sandoval in the 85th minute, on an assist from Preston Hale. The Bulldogs were able to keep the Titans from scoring in the final minutes, giving Bellevue a 1-0 win.

Unfortunately, the Bulldogs’ fortunes didn’t hold up for the next match as Bellevue hosted the West’s second-ranked Highline Thunderbirds at Sammamish HS. Highline jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 2nd minute of the match, and continued to dominate the field scoring three more goals before Bellevue’s David Lovas found the back of the net in the 30th minute. Highline held the lead going into halftime, 4-1. Things didn’t improve for the Bellevue offense although the Bulldogs defense was able to hold Highline at bay until the 63rd minute when the Thunderbirds scored the final goal of the match to make it a 5-1 loss for Bellevue.

On Monday, Oct. 29, the men’s soccer team travels to Wenatchee Valley College to make up the game that was postponed due to smoky air conditions in the valley in September.
