It was an unsuccessful West Region opener for Bellevue men’s soccer at home on Wednesday, Sept. 19, in the 2-0 loss against rivals Olympic College. The first half of the match was characterized by an absolute domination by the Bulldogs, successfully controlling the ball in all the parts of the pitch. However, they were unable to put the ball into the net to open the sheet score.
In the second half, when Olympic took advantage of a cross from the right side to score the first goal of the game in the 52nd minute, that score represented the turnaround point of the match. The Rangers, who until that time had not had relevant control of the ball, took over the game and started to play with more confidence. Despite good efforts, the Bulldogs were unable to match that. With the Bulldogs unable to get back in their feet, Olympic scored the second and final goal of the match in a very similar play of the first goal.
“While I was very disappointed with the final result,” said Bellevue’s head coach Tao Shen, “on the positive side, it comforts me that for most of the game we controlled the game and the ball, so I feel confident in saying that we can only do better from here.”
