Baseball Goes 2-1 Despite Rain and Snow

The Bellevue College baseball team was able to get in three out of four scheduled games the weekend of March 10 and 11 despite rain and occasional snow. On Saturday, the Bulldogs took on the Spokane Sasquatch in a non-conference game. Sophomore Adrian Sampson earned his second win of the season striking out nine batters in six innings of work. The Bellevue offense came alive plating seven runs en route to the 7-2 victory. Nate Litka, Dustin Breshears, and Jordan Richartz each had two hits for Bellevue.

On Sunday, the Bulldogs were back in action with the Sasquatch for game two of the series. Sophomore Matt Cooper earned the win throwing six innings, allowing no runs and striking out seven. The Bellevue offense came along late breaking a 0-0 tie by putting up three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Tyler Baumgartner was three for four with a run, an RBI, and a triple, while freshman Max Brown was two for three with a run, RBI and a double. Bellevue went on to win the game 4-1.

In the third and final game of the weekend, Bellevue took to the field against the Edmonds Tritons. In a tight game of the North Region contenders, Edmonds was able to capitalize in extra innings with the score 2-2 after an errant throw led to the game-winning run. In the 3-2 loss, the offense scattered ten hits. Litka was four for four in the game, Baumgartner was 3-4 with an RBI, and Breshears was 2-5. Sophomore Jeff Gonzales was sharp in his six innings of work allowing just one earned run and striking out three.

Two weeks into the season, Bellevue is still ranked in the nation’s top 50 at #20 this week. The Bulldogs are now 5-2 on the season and are back in action the weekend of March 17 and 18, hosting Centralia Saturday for a 12 p.m. doubleheader, then another 12 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday against Tacoma.
