On Wednesday, March 7, the Bellevue College baseball team made its way south to Longview, WA, to face off against the Lower Columbia Red Devils in a doubleheader that had been rescheduled from the previous weekend. In game one, Bellevue pitcher Matt Cooper pitched his team to a 2-1 victory tossing four innings and allowing only one run on two hits while striking out seven. Bulldogs reliever Scott Kuzminsky threw two innings of no-hit baseball, and Adrian Sampson earned his first save of the season closing out the seventh. Freshman outfielder Jordan Richartz was 1-3 with an RBI single in the second. Infielder Jared Casper scored both runs for the Bulldogs.
In game two, Bellevue managed an early lead but fell short to the Red Devils 3-2, suffering their first loss on the year. Bellevue scored runs in the second and third innings on RBIs from Dustin Breshears and Marc Dickerson taking the early 2-0 lead. Bulldogs pitcher Jeff Gonzales threw four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit during his turn on the mound. Then, in the fifth inning, the Red Devils evened up the score at 2 a side. In the sixth, Lower Columbia added the go-ahead run that was enough to earn the win. Bellevue’s Will Minice suffered the loss in relief in his pitching debut.
