Brown and Magana Joins the Men’s Soccer Coaching Staff

Darren Brown and Kiko Magana have been hired as assistant coaches for the 2012 season.

“I am excited to announce that Coaches Brown and Magana will join the staff here at Bellevue College,” said Shen. “Their knowledge, enthusiasm, and work-ethic will fulfill our vision here to develop a first-class collegiate program at Bellevue College.”

Coach Brown started his coaching career for Beaverton, OR club Westside Metros in 1998.  He also coached the 5A Westview Wildcats men’s soccer team from 1999-2001 going to state both seasons and one quarterfinal appearance.  In 2002, he took over the Mount Si HS programs, coaching both the boys’ and girls’ programs where he has tallied an overall record of 153 wins, 96 losses, and 35 ties.  He was named KingCo Coach of the Year in 2003, 2008, and 2010.  Mount Si has gone to state in 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2010 that included three quarterfinal appearances and two KingCo championships in 2008 and 2010.  Coach Brown has a master’s degree in Sports Management and has been a certified personal trainer since 1999.  He teaches Sports Marketing and Physical Education at Mount Si HS.

“I am truly excited to come on board and assist Tao with the men’s program.  I have been pleased with what I have seen in player development and raising the bar of excellence.  I am happy to be a part of Bellevue Bulldog Soccer”.

Coach Brown will take the role as the recruiting coordinator and marketing director. His role will be to collaborate with the head coach in all aspects in running the men’s program, especially in planning for training sessions, player development, and making tactical decisions.

Coach Magana comes from Hutchinson, KS where he led his high school to a state runner-up finish in ‘02, semi-finalist in ‘03 and quarter finalist in ‘00. He was selected with all-conference, region and state honors sophomore through senior years.

Magana’s collegiate career began at Iowa Central Community College. In ’04 he helped the Tritons become region XI champions and district semi-finalist with a record of 18-2-0 contributing to 18 games, 9 goals, and 4 assists with 22 total points and selected to the all-region XI team. In ’05 Magana’s team was again region XI champions and district runner-up with a record of 17-5-0. Magana played in 7 games with 4 goals and 2 assists totaling 10 points before suffering a closed tibia fracture.

Magana transferred to Lees McRae College and in ’06 made a full recovery playing in 16 games. In ’07 Magana helped the Bobcats to one of their most successful seasons by becoming regular season  and conference champions and advancing to the Division II NCAA sweet sixteen ending the season with a record of 21-2-1. Magana graduated from Lees McRae with a bachelor of science in Sport Management.
