After having a two scheduled doubleheaders rained out (Yakima Valley, March 1, then Lower Columbia College, March 3) the Bellevue Bulldogs baseball team was finally able to open their 2012 season on Sunday, March 4, at Pierce College. In game one, the Bulldogs played from behind most of the game until the eighth inning when Willy Reel and Brady Kerr each drove in runs to tie the score at 4-4. Then, in the eleventh with the score still tied at four a side, Bellevue managed to score three runs on RBIs coming from Tyler Baumgartner, Jared Casper, and Colin Hering. Scott Kuzminsky earned the win in relief throwing three Innings and allowing just one hit capping the 7-4 win.
In the second game, Adrian Sampson took the hill for the Dogs, earning the win while throwing four innings and allowing one run on two hits. Baumgartner paced the offense turning in a 3-3 game as the Bulldogs posted runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. In the sixth, Andrew Groves earned the save as Bellevue improved to 2-0 on the season. The game was called after 6 innings due to darkness.
The rained-out doubleheaders are now scheduled for Wednesday, March 7, at Lower Columbia College with 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. start times; the Yakima Valley doubleheader set for Thursday, March 22, games times TBA.
