Team Baumgartner Sweeps Team Casper to Take Bellevue College Baseball World Series

It took extra innings for Team Baumgartner to squeak out a 2-1 win in game 2 of the annual fall world series.  After a pitcher’s duel led to a 1-1 tie, Steven Johnson and Matt Cooper continued the pitcher’s duel with 2 shutout innings apiece before Team Baum’s Jordan Richartz stole second and third with one out. With runners at second and third and one out, Team Casper opted not to intentionally walk Nick Lombardi and drew all fielders in. Lombardi delivered a routine fly ball to left field that allowed the winning run to score.  In the innings that led to a 1-1 tie through regulation play, both sides rode the standout pitching by Adrian Sampson, Andrew Groves, Nick Kiel, and Scott Kuzminsky.  Team Baumgartner won 5-2 on the opening day as Cooper and Jake Reppert held down the lineup of Team Casper for the win.  Max Brown (Team Baum) and Anthony Flatt (Team Casper) led the offense for their respective teams.

The World Series last week wrapped up an excellent fall season which included a 7-0-1 record. Although no official box scores were kept for fall scrimmages per NWAACC regulations, the top-ranked Bulldogs (see accompanying story) outscored their opponents by a margin of roughly 70-16.

The Bulldogs open up their 2012 season on Thursday March 1 at Yakima Valley College.
