Bellevue Takes Four From Olympic

Bellevue College baseball won all four games against Olympic College over the weekend. On Saturday April 30, the Bulldogs won the opener 13-0 before laboring in a 6-5 nail-biter in game two. On Sunday May 1, Bellevue had to work just as hard as for two more close wins, winning at home by scores of 4-2 and 2-1.  Kyle Swannack threw another complete game shutout for Bellevue in the 13-0 win which ended after six innings due to the ten-run mercy rule.  Swannack only faced two batters over the minimum through his six innings of work. Tyler Baumgartner, a Central Kitsap HS grad, returned to his former field where he played high school ball and had a memorable homecoming by collecting three hits, including a 400 foot home run to center field. Dan Schmidt, and Jerad Casper also homered for Bellevue while Schmidt, Kyle Conwell, Zach Aaker, and Colin Hering all had two hits apiece.  In game two, Bellevue jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Olympic battled back to tie it a 4-4.  Casper again delivered with a home run to break the tie. Relief pitcher Scott Kuzminsky entered the game in the sixth inning and gave up an unearned run before blanking the Rangers for the final three innings for the save.

On Sunday May 1, Adrian Sampson struck out 10 in a complete game win. The offense was hot in the fourth inning, when doubles by Andy Smith, Tyler Cox, and Cory Urquhart helped Bellevue put up all four Bellevue runs in the game in the 4-2 win.  In game two, Bellevue left 13 runners on base but escaped with a 2-1 win thanks to the pitching of Casper and reliever Frank Tassara. Casper threw eight innings and surrendered only two hits and an unearned run before giving way to Tassara who earned his first save of the year.

Bellevue’s next action are two recently-added games this Wednesday May 4 in Centralia. At 4:00 PM, the Bulldogs will take on Clark CC before playing host Centralia College at 7:00PM. Both games are 9-inning non-league contests and will be played at Borst Park in Centralia. Bellevue will take the weekend off before closing out league play on May 14-15 against Skagit Valley.
