BC Volleyball Gaining Momentum

Bellevue College’s volleyball team played two road trips the first week of November. Their first visit was to Skagit Valley in Mount Vernon on November 3 where the Bulldogs took a commanding victory holding the Cardinals under 20 points in each of the three games in the match. Hitter Lisa Schouten recorded nine kills for Bellevue, while Jessicca Weitman and Emma Rogel both tallied eight. Veronica Wetzel had a game high 33 assists. Amber Shields and Dez Diego also recorded assists. On defense, Diego provided 16 digs while Weitman had seven of her own. They totaled 23 of the team’s 37 total digs. The match ended with scores of 25-18, 25-17, and 25-18; all in favor of a Bulldogs victory.

Against Everett on November 5, Bellevue had an equally dominating performance, holding the Trojans to under 20 points in each of three games. This time, Rogel had the team high in kills with 13. Jenessa Reid recorded nine as the team totaled 41 kills for the match. Other offensive contributors included Schouten and Brandy Johnson. Wetzel had a slightly smaller workload in terms of assists, recording 21. Shields provided 12 assists for the Bulldogs. All 12 players recorded a dig for Bellevue as Diego followed up with a strong defensive effort with a game high 17 digs in the match. Final results were 25-19, 25-14, and 25-17 with all three games going to Bellevue. Their league record now stands at 7-4 and have clinched a playoff spot.

The Bulldogs finish up the regular season November 9 against Whatcom at home with a game time of 7 PM. Sophomores will be honored this evening as well. This match will determine Bellevue’s final seeding for the NWAACC playoffs starting November 18 at Mount Hood CC in Gresham, OR.
