Bellevue Men’s and Women’s Golf teams got off to a good start with their first matches of the season in the 2009 Cardinal Classic, hosted by Skagit Valley College at the Avalon Golf Club in Burlington, Sept. 27-28.
Following two days of play, the Bulldog men ended up in a tie for second place with Spokane with an overall team score of 608 (first round, 305; second round 303). BC sophomore Matt Epstein (Monroe), who shot a blazing 70 on Monday, came in third for men’s individual at 149, only 3 behind the leader, Matt Hennick, SVC, at 146. Also finishing in the top 10 was sophomore Brycen Finnie (Kamiak), who tied at 6th with his two-round total of 151.
On the women’s side, Stephanie Shoof’s (Eastlake), 178 two-round total, also earned her the third place finish for women’s individual, and lifted the Bulldogs to a team finish of fourth place among the seven women’s teams over the weekend.
The BC golf teams next travel to Hayden, Idaho, for the North Idaho Invitational, Oct. 4-5.
The Bellevue College Golf team was resurrected in 2006 and continue to be one of the top programs in the region . BC has tabbed Kirk Johanson as head coach. The golf team has already garnered several team and individual successes. Most notably, former Bulldog Richard Lee is currently one of the top golfers for the University of Washington.
