Bellevue ’02 Alum Blake Hawksworth Called Up to Major Leagues

Bellevue College’s Blake Hawksworth, a standout on the 2002 Bulldog team, was recently promoted from AAA Memphis to the St. Louis Cardinals major league club. He will be a middle reliever for the Cards. Hawksworth signed with the Cardinals after one year at Bellevue. During that year, Hawksworth went 8-0 with a 0.16 ERA and was named the NWAACC Most Valuable Player as he led Bellevue to a runner up finish at the NWAACC Championships. Hawksworth, who in the past has been named the Cardinals top prospect in the organization, had several standout starts for Memphis earning him the promotion. He is one one of two current major leaguers who played under Coach Mark Yoshino at Bellevue in back-to-back years. Evan Meek, an ’03 grad, has been a consistent middle reliever for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
