Baseball Rained Out Over the Weekend

The Bulldog baseball team was rained out all four games this past weekend. The team has already lost 7 games to inclement weather but will play 6 games in 4 days this upcoming weekend in Florida to prepare for their league opener on March 28.

On Saturday March 21, Bellevue will play a doubleheader against Rochester Community College, an NCAA Division III junior college out of Minnesota. Cody Goodfellow will start game one while freshman righty Seafth Howe will start game two. Both games are 7-inning affairs.

On Sunday March 22, Bellevue will play a doubleheader against a familiar foe, Elgin Community College, an NCAA Division II junior college out of Illinois. Elgin is annually ranked in the nation’s top 25 with multiple national JUCO world series appearances. This spring is no exception, as Elgin was ranked #2 in the country for DII junior colleges. The matchups between Elgin and Bellevue appear to be annual by coincidence, as Bellevue defeated Elgin in ’07 while Elgin won the ’08 contest. Lefties TJ Parthemer and Kirk Wetmore will start on the mound. Both games are 7-inning affairs.

On Monday March 23, the Bulldogs will travel to Viera, Florida to challenge the minor league squad of the Washington Nationals at their spring training complex. Sophomores Brian Buckham and Jay Taylor will pitch for Bellevue in the 7-inning game.

On Tuesday March 24, Bellevue will square off against the defending league champions of the mid-Florida Community College Athletic Association, Seminole Community College. The 9-inning game will begin at 3:00 pm. A starter has yet to be determined, but several pitchers will throw in the team’s final tune up before returning home for their league opener on Saturday.
