MEN’S GOLF FINISHES IN SECOND PLACE AT NWAACC TOURNAMENT; LEE REPEATS AS NWAACC INDIVIDUAL CHAMPION, JOHANSON WINS C.O.Y.

The BCC Men’s Golf team has come a long way since its inception just two years ago. After finishing outside of the top three a season ago, the BCC Men’s team fell one stroke short of the Championship on May 19, settling for second place. Walla Walla Community College, the defending NWAACC Champion, led from start to finish in claiming the title.

Things did not look good for the Bulldogs after the first day, where the trailed Walla Walla by 11 strokes after a first round combined score of 303. The team responded with a furious rally on day two, shooting an astonishing 280, ten strokes better than any other team in the field. It was not quite enough however, as the Bulldogs’ two day total of 583 was just short of Warriors’ mark of 582.

As he has done for two seasons, Richard Lee led the way for Bellevue and solidified his position as the best male golfer in the NWAACC, as he turned in a two-day score of 137 to successfully defend his NWAACC Individual Championship. After a first round 71, Lee led the charge on day two, turning in a 5-under-par 66. Teammate Jeff Williams matched lee stroke for stroke on day two, turning in his own round of 66 and finishing in a tie for third place

With two Individual NWAACC Titles under his belt, Lee will take his considerable talents to the University of Washington next year after signing a National Letter of Intent in the fall.

Bellevue Head Coach Kirk Johanson was voted the NWAACC Coach of the Year for orchestrating the program’s remarkable two-year rise to the competitive elite in the NWAACC. After struggling in their inaugural season, BCC finished 9-1 in 2007-08, tops among Northern Region teams.
