COMPASS Writing Essay (e-Write)
The COMPASS Writing Essay is currently open to students for the Nursing and the Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist (ENDT) programs only.
Attention:
- Available dates and times for the COMPASS e-Write Test are listed below.
- Pre-registration is not required, just walk in during the test sessions listed on the e-Write testing schedule, but space is limited, be sure to come early.
- You must bring a valid photo ID and the required test fee (debit/credit card or check is preferred).
- Examinees are admitted to the test room on a first come first serve basis.
- The test is timed. You have one hour to complete the test, but the check-in/check out process may take up to 30 minutes, so plan your time accordingly and arrive early.
- The test fee is NON-REFUNDABLE.

You pay the fee on the test day when you check in at the Testing Services. We accept check, credit or debit card for payment.
Refund Policy: The testing fee is NON-REFUNDABLE.

How to take the Test
Pre-registration is not required, just walk in during the eWrite test sessions listed on the schedule. Here are the steps for taking the test:
- View the available test sessions and select a day and time that work for you.
- Bring a valid photo ID and your BC student ID number. If you do not have a BC number, bring your social security number.
- Go to the Testing Services in B132F. The check-in/check out process may take up to 30 minutes, so plan for your time accordingly and arrive early.
- Pay the test fee at the Testing Services when you check in. We only accept check, debit or credit card. If you do not have a BC student ID number, you must pay by debit or credit card.
NOTE:
- Due to limited seat availability, examinees are accepted on a first come first serve basis.

Test Day
1. Plan Your Time Accordingly
The check-in and check-out process may take up to 30 minutes, and you have up to one hour to complete the test. So plan your time accordingly.
2. What To Bring On Test Day

Bring a valid photo identification (you will not be able to test without a picture ID).

Bring your BC Student ID number. If you do not have a BC Student ID number, bring your Social Security Number.

Bring the payment for the testing fee. We only accept check, debit or credit card. If you do not have a BC student ID number, you must pay by debit or credit card.
3. Important Regulations

This is a computerized test and is timed. You have up to one hour to complete the test.

We will provide scratch paper and pencils.
-
You will receive your test result and a score report immediately when you finish the test.

No bags or back packs are allowed in the testing room. Lockers are available if you need to store your personal items, you may leave your belongings in your car or with your family or friends.

No drinks or food in the testing room.

No hats, coats or jackets that have pockets are allowed in the testing room.

No breaks are allowed during the test.

Cell phone use is prohibited. If your phone makes noise, or you are seen using it at any time, you will be dismissed immediately and your test will be canceled. This policy also applies to any other prohibited digital and/or electronic devices such as BlackBerrys, CD players, pagers, PDAs, cameras, and other photographic equipment and separate timers of any kind.

Below is the information from the ACT COMPASS official website:
You'll be given a writing task (prompt) framed within a familiar context. This might be a community or school setting where a problem or issue related to that setting is presented.
The prompt requires that you take a position and offer a solution supported with specific examples or evidence regarding the position taken. You should adopt one or the other of the points of view or solutions described in the writing prompt. Your score will not be affected by the point of view you take on the issue.

A School Board is concerned that the state's requirements for core courses in mathematics, English, science, and social studies may prevent students from taking important elective courses like music, other languages, and vocational education. The School Board would like to encourage more high school students to take elective courses and is considering two proposals. One proposal is to lengthen the school day to provide students with the opportunity to take elective courses. The other proposal is to offer elective courses in the summer. Write a letter to the School Board in which you argue for lengthening the school day or for offering elective courses during the summer, explaining why you think your choice will encourage more students to take elective courses. Your response is evaluated according to how well you:

Inclement Weather and Emergency
Check the college homepage for campus closure due to inclement weather or any emergency. If the college campus is closed, no test will be available. If conditions are dangerous, do not attempt to travel to the test center.
