Preparing to Transfer
Each quarter TRiO
Student Support Services holds workshops to coincide with typical
transfer schedule of events (searching for schools, visiting campuses,
questions to ask college officials, understanding deadlines, writing a
successful personal statement and applying for schools, and financial
aid). Participants are able to gain valuable information and plan for
making appointments with transfer advisors to effectively complete each

Transfer Shock
Transferring to a
new academic environment can often be an anxiety ridden experience.
TRiO offers workshops that teach participants just what to expect when
they transfer to 4 year college or university. Such topics include, but
are not limited to: The differences between college and university,
living independently, adjusting to a larger academic environment, what
if I decide to change my major, and many more important topics. This
workshop is usually offered right before the end of spring quarter (the
time of the highest volume of transfer applicants).
University Visitations
Each year, TRiO
Student Support Services offers the opportunity to visit a 4 year
college or university campus. This visit usually takes place before the
peak time for applying to transfer. Participants are able to get a
bird’s eye view of a 4 year college or university they may want to
attend, meet 4 year college or university TRiO staff, and gain exposure
to the 4 year college or university environment. They are also able to
visit campuses with other prospective students and building
relationships that may help them succeed once transferred.
