History

History is the sum total
of all recorded human experience.

At Bellevue College, history courses may be counted as either social science or humanities credits in fulfillment of degree requirements.
Students will acquire an ability to evaluate different kinds of evidence, understand the nature of argument in the context of time and place, appreciate the nature of cause and effect, and learn to measure the impact of ideas, individuals, economic and social factors on historical developments.
Historical investigation arms a student with a ready understanding of the diversity and wealth of various cultures and historical traditions in the world. As a social science discipline, it employs accepted methods for qualitative and quantitative evidence. These provide students with analytical tools that are applicable in many different work situations. For more information about our courses, distribution requirements, special offerings, and links to some of the faculty who teach the courses, see our course catalog.
