Army VOTEC Program Brief

The U.S. Army Education Division implemented a new short-term, pilot program to target non-credit, vocational training for soldiers on active duty, National Guard, and Army Reserve on extended Active duty.

AVOTEC enrollment began February 1st, 2009 in various colleges nationwide. The last day to invoice for any classes which a soldier has enrolled is September 30th, 2009. Payment for this training is submitted to colleges in the form of Government Tuition Assistance Reimbursement (TAR), which is processed by Jackie Thoms in Finance.

Each soldier is provided up to $4500 for training, which can not be used after the September 30th, 2009. Soldiers can use these funds for other programs, so the $4500 is not dedicated to AVOTEC training. The Army tracks the money being used by the soldier, and provides the remaining funds available on an enrollment form provided to Registration.

Eligible training must be non-credit and lead to a state, national, or industry certification or licensure. Classes that are vocational, but can be used for dual credit, also qualify for AVOTEC funding. Training can be no longer than 18 months maximum in class length. The start date of training is not specified, as long as the training can be invoiced by September 30th, 2009.

Our program will be visible primarily to the local Army education office in Fort Lewis. Our contact at Fort Lewis has information about VOTEC eligible BCC classes for interested soldiers. BCC eligible classes are also visible on a secure Army Education Division website. To view this link, you may have to select ‘yes’ to a Security Certificate warning to proceed: https://www.hrc.army.mil/site/education/VOTEC_Program.html.
